And, we're officially homeless

It's not as bad as it sounds, this "officially homeless" thing. Clyde & Sherry have ever so graciously let us squat in their house until we find something a lot more permanent. Last Thursday Mike & I spent the day packing the remaining possessions into the POD and cleaning every inch of our home for the last 5 1/2 years. Yesterday, we put the keys on the kitchen counters along with a welcome home note to the new owners. As of 5:00 tonight the house is truly no longer ours. A little bittersweet. That house was home to many fond memories, tons of laughs shared, some tough times to wrangle with here and there, and some major life milestones. All in all, a life well lived.

With the commute taking up more time than we'd prefer every day (granted, we're very spoiled in that department), and not having anywhere to truly call home, finding a new Elliott Abode is weighing heavily on our minds these days. We have a couple options.
  • Option #1: The Education Hill house. Status: offer accepted, inspection complete. Pending agreement from the seller to put on a new roof before the scheduled close date of Nov. 6. Looking at the calendar and the heavy rain coming down, closing on Nov. 6 is not very likely. Secondly, we'll find out tonight if they're actually going to replace the roof. If not, we walk away for the 3rd time. Sigh....
  • Option #2: Rid ourselves of dealing with homeowners as sellers and problems coming up in inspections and buy new construction. Lot & builder were picked out this weekend. Downside is the 6 month lead time.
The goal is to have someplace to call "home" by Thanksgiving, whether that's someplace we rent until a new home is built, or the Education Hill house. Wish us luck.
